Leading Edge Vs. Bleeding Edge

We know what side of this double-edged sword we'd want to be on.

Leading Edge Vs. Bleeding Edge

Customers often ask about our software package life expectancy. This is a fair question – of course you’d want to be sure the thing you’re investing in will last.

My answer is always that software and technology in general are moving at a very fast pace. That’s no news to anyone. The truth is, the question being asked here is impossible to answer accurately. However, in Nitec, we aim to maximise the chance of having the longest possible lifespan from your software both by partnering with you and by consistently ensuring we are using the latest proven technology.

So, what do we mean by ‘leading vs. bleeding edge’?

The phrase ‘latest proven technology’ is carefully chosen here as we differentiate the two sides of this double-edged sword. Let me explain. The bleeding edge is that point in technology that isn’t quite tested. It’s those new technologies that hit the market that look all shiny and inviting but you soon find out they have ragged edges that end up, well, making you bleed.

However, the leading edge is just a little way behind. When many of those same technologies get their ragged edges sanded down and smoothed out. When they become more balanced, usable and safe. When they are fully featured and not limited.

Technology at Nitec

We of course use the technologies on the leading edge. That’s why we are continually innovating and testing within our team. We put the bleeding edge technologies to the test to decide what passes and when it becomes ‘proven’. This is what we give to our clients.

It’s also why Nitec offers trusted and comprehensive cloud-based solutions and has the best knowledge in this area in the entire country. It’s why we use modern technologies both on the back-end business logic code and front-end user interfaces. This is what will make our software stand the test of time.

That’s software to build a business on.
