Social responsibility is always at the front of Nitec’s mind, and Nitec are delighted to celebrate another year in partnership with Antrim–based recruitment and training agency, Rutledge, to continue providing young people with invaluable work experience.
The relationship with Rutledge was established 10 years ago to encourage and support young people into employment and enabled Rutledge to place students in an IT environment to help them gain both experience and an ICT qualification. Oriel Training in Antrim was soon after taken over by Rutledge but remained in partnership with Nitec and continued to place students within the business.
Calum Waring took up a part–time placement at Nitec in December 2016 while studying for his course at Rutledge to pursue his passion for IT.
Speaking of the experience, Calum said, “I’ve learned a lot from my time at Nitec and loved every minute of it. I’ve developed a lot of helpful skills such as communication and teamwork and my knowledge of IT has skyrocketed, which makes me very grateful for the opportunity I’ve been given.”
Upon completing his placement, Calum then joined Nitec as a full–time apprentice in June 2018.
“While working on my placement I focused on gaining my essential skills to help build a foundation for my development in the industry and enable me to work towards higher qualifications. I’m currently working towards a Level 2 professional IT qualification, with plans to develop further and study for Level 3 and then go on to university.”
Oriel graduate, Laimonas Trivalas, joined the Nitec team in October 2015, gaining experience with the Admin team before moving to the Workshop as a trainee. Once he completed his studies, he qualified from Rutledge with skills in IT, maths and literacy.
Laimonas commented, “My experience at Nitec has been insightful and has equipped me with the necessary skills to carry out my job effectively, which involves network monitoring and carrying out security checks and back–ups.”
The most recent placement student from Rutledge, David Wilson, joined Nitec in February 2018 and carried out a 6–month placement in Nitec’s workshop before commencing his apprenticeship and joining the Service Desk Team as a Workshop Assistant. In addition to his work experience, David has also achieved all his qualifications.
“Rutledge has really helped me to build the foundation I’m standing on today,” commented David, “while Nitec has given me the opportunity to develop my skills and talent through experience, something that is invaluable in today’s society.”
A Beneficial Partnership
Rutledge Branch Manager for Antrim, Christine Mochan, said, “At Rutledge we’re committed to helping people develop their vocational skills and our ApprenticeshipsNI programme provides young people with the opportunity to study and gain experience in a different way to the traditional education path.”
“Our partnership with Nitec has enabled some of our young people to work for a leading IT company, be mentored by experienced staff, work as part of a team and apply the knowledge they have gained from studying for their chosen qualifications. What they walk away with at the end of the apprenticeship is an indispensable skillset that will help them to achieve whatever they wish to achieve.”
Nitec has a history of providing students with placement opportunities, developing their skills and capabilities, and ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge they need for their chosen career path.
