Michael joined Nitec in October 2018, hot on the heels of his friend Karl, who felt he’d be a perfect addition to the growing Software Development team. Luckily, Mark agreed.
Michael hails from Garvagh and studied Computing at University of Ulster in Coleraine. He’s a keen sportsman with a passion for football, but also enjoys playing golf and hits the gym 4 times a week. Michael is a firm believer in the power of a good haircut, or “sick fade”, to use his terminology. He’s a loyal Manchester United fan and is looking forward to his next trip to Old Trafford – hopefully they won’t let him down… again!
An ideal weekend for Michael would involve some gym time on Saturday morning, followed by a round of golf, football in the afternoon, and a night out on the town. Sundays are dedicated to his girlfriend, Ellen, walking the dog, enjoying his favourite dinner of fillet steak (medium rare) and pepper sauce, or watching a movie. Movies happen to be another of Michael’s passions, and his top picks include the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Batman trilogy, Anchorman, Step Brothers, the Avengers, and the Wolf of Wall Street.
What Michael loves most about Software Development is the feeling of creating something; from scoping out a solution, to developing and implementing intuitive software which is easy to use. Michael gets a lot of satisfaction from problem–solving and seeing his hard work really help the user.
Michael is always learning at Nitec; with every new challenge comes a new set of skills and he’s constantly building his knowledge. As well as this aspect of life at Nitec, Michael really values his team and loves that while they all work hard, they have good craic as well.
Not a lot of people know it, but Michael is an amazing impressionist. Don’t put him on the spot, but if you ask nicely he might give you a rendition of his Ron Burgundy some time.
